Another stamp that goes out to my dear big brother japan *annako

In the past I've admittedly done this and only when you receive comments like this yourself does it begin to affect you. To me, it's just another way of insulting someone for what they like and saying you'd rather they not draw that (pairing/character/fandom).

I understand some people would rather not seem like they like something they don't but then people can't go around assuming things without justification.

Then again, it's probably better to say nothing at all?

Thoughts?

Well, comments like that usually go like this: "I don't really like this series but ... I like this picture anyway :heart:" And if you get one like that I think that you should feel honored that you could make a non-fan like your picture anyway. I don't know about you, but when I write comments like that I mean it to be a compliment and the people who see them seem to take them well. I've also received a similar one myself. I had drawn a pairing picture and one person commented like this: "I prefer another pairing but I still like this :D" and that just made me happy. It's great when people are open-minded and it's a lot better to comment like that than to say that you hate what a person does JUST because you don't like the series, character or pairing. That's just my opinion.

Oh! Don't get me wrong, I do feel pretty flattered when someone likes my picture but they dislike the pairing :blush:

Though, honestly? I don't feel it's really necessary when they need to clear up the fact that they don't like ___ pairing or ___ series. If they don't, they don't or if they just prefer something else that's fine too, but I don't know why it's so important to say? They could just say "This is really nice art!" and leave it like that...I mean it might just be me but it's not like I'm gonna go gushing at them that they like ___ pairing or ___ series unless they gush about it themselves haha;;

And sometimes their comments could also come off as "Wow I didn't expect to see good art for this ___ pairing or ___ series I dislike!". I suppose then it's really more how it was said. As someone who receives these comments a lot now, it just kinda stings...

But I do understand what you mean! :)

I would see this as a compliment. I even wrote this before when I found a very pretty pic of a pairing or a fandom I usually donīt really enjoy as much as the artist does. But that was already said :D

A lot of times I find it /more/ of a compliment.
When it's like "I don't really like this character, but gosh they way you drew them is /fantastic/" They thought enough of your art to want to say something on it even though they don't like the subject.
That's just what I think -shrug-

Yeah it’s annoying when they do that, especially when they just complain about how they don’t like the pairing/videogame fandom/etc. without even commenting on the art itself as if the artist is going to stop drawing it because they don’t like it. I’ve seen comments like “I don’t know why people bother with __ anymore” or “Great fanart, terrible theme” and “You like __? If people could understand how illogical this pairing is but I still respect your opinion even if it’s illogical” (not only was he/she redundant but the pairing was so “illogical” that it became canon in the series :lmao:).

If they’re going to comment they should just comment about the art itself, not to harass the artist for not having the same opinion/views/likes/dislikes as them.

...I've gotten comments like that. I try not to be insulted, but it still stings only a tiny bit. Then I got used to it; I like characters and pairings most people don't, so by now I'm more than used to it.

it's kind of annoying when people comment on things they completely dislike, just to say how much they hate it and say it 'sucks', should just move along and ignore it :p
unless there is something you happen to like about it then say, like i do sometimes "i normally don't like <name of thing>, but i (kind of) like this because <insert reason>"
